As part of improving our grant application process we have launched online Teams-based Pre-Application Advice Sessions.  These sessions will allow groups to learn more about our eligibility criteria, whether their work aligns with local funding priorities, and the types of funding programmes currently available. 

Any organisation wishing to apply need to attend one of these sessions to have their application considered.  If organisations have been previously funded or are current grant holders planning to apply again they will need to attend a session before submitting a new application.

This is quite a change from the previous model where organisations were able to apply directly without any contact with the Wales team.  We would be grateful if you could inform any interested organisations about this change.  More information and dates for the sessions are now online and can be booked via our website:

Free Introduction to Childcare courses for adults and young people

The courses provide information on careers in childcare and a flavour of the sector from professionals working within early years and childcare.

We are keen to work with groups to inspire a passion for childcare and are hoping you may be interested in discussing how this offer could be made/tailored to some of the groups/individuals you are engaging with.

The Introduction to Childcare is an online, one day course which gives people who live in Wales the opportunity to gain an understanding of the information and skills needed to work in the childcare sector. 

The course content will cover: 

What is the early years and childcare sector? 

Roles in the early years and childcare sector 

Employee qualities and experiences 

Children’s rights 

Well-being 

Child-centred practice 

Play 

Safeguarding 

Infection prevention and control 

The Welsh language 

Professional practice 

Policy and legislation 

Childcare qualifications 

Upon completion, a range of support is available to individuals, including follow up resources, digital training modules, work trials and Careers Wales employability support to help people start their career within the childcare sector.

A “Quiz Night” will be held on Wednesday 12th November at 7pm at the West End Bowls Club, The Walk, Merthyr Tydfil. The event is to raise funds for the Merthyr Tydfil Community Trust.

The Merthyr Tydfil Community Trust is a charitable trust that supports local voluntary and community groups. It makes small grants to small groups that make a big difference to them.
