2025 marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day. As it was in 1945, the heart of the VE Day 80 commemorations and celebrations will be in our communities.
To support this momentous anniversary, the Monday May 5th Bank Holiday has been officially dedicated to community celebrations ahead of the main anniversary on May 8th.
The /together Coalition (which works to build kinder and better connected communities) is calling on schools, organisations and communities right across Wales to come together in celebrating our Second World War veterans. This is a unique opportunity to learn once more from their experiences.
Join the Great British Food Festival on Monday 5th May!
It could be as simple as cooking up a curry or a BBQ to a street party or Big Lunch extravaganza – whatever you choose to do, now is a good time to start thinking about how you can get together and share food to celebrate our Second World War victory, together.
Take part in the VE Mail letter-exchange
Every schoolchild across the UK is invited to join in learning from and connecting with a living Second World War veteran ahead of the anniversary. If you are a school or youth organisation, sign up today to request a letter from a Veteran to be sent to your children and young people.
A range of activities and useful resources aimed at schools and communities can be found on the /together website.
