Safeguarding

The safeguarding of children and adults at risk is everybody’s business.

This page is designed to help third sector organisations to keep everyone safe from harm.

If you are a member of an existing voluntary, community or charitable group or are looking to set up a new group, VAMT can help you with support, information and training around keeping safeguarding at the core of everything you do.

  • Whether you are a new group just starting out or an established group looking to update, you can meet with one of our development officers, or access our detailed information sheets which are designed to take you through everything from getting started, to working sustainably.

To get you started, visit the governance section of the Knowldege Hub for safeguarding resources.

  • To save you searching through policies we have attached a link to a Model Safeguarding Policy. Although templates are a good idea to get you started, it is very important that your policy is tailored to the needs of the people who are involved. You should review and update your policies and procedures annually to ensure they remain current. When relevant you should update at other intervals where there are changes that should be incorporated, for example in our area (Cwm Taf) we now have the MASH – Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub with new contact numbers and referral forms for professionals.

You can find Safeguarding Policies/ Procedures and information relating to the MASH on the new Cwm Taf Safeguarding Board Website.

The Cwm Taf Safeguarding Children and Adults Boards new Website was launched in 2015. It contains information on the range of safeguarding issues affecting children and adults within Cwm Taf and importantly, how to spot the warning signs and seek further support.

  • If your organisation has its own building that you hire to others, it is important that you have an agreement in place which clearly sets out both parties’ responsibilities. You should ensure that the hirer has their own Public Liability Insurance, PAT testing arrangements (for any electrical equipment you have agreed they can use) and Safeguarding policies as a minimum. You can find a hiring agreement (template) or an example here .
  • Parents and carers are being encouraged to find out more about the groups that they, their child or cared for adult is involved with. If you are a parent or carer here is a list you might find useful.
