Homeshare in Wales

Join us in person or online for our March seminar.

12noon on Tuesday 28th March 2023

Homeshare in Wales, Presented by Tim Crahart

The seminar will cover the history of Homeshare, why it is needed, how the model works, information regarding the three Homeshare pilots in Wales and end with an overview of the Homeshare UK network.

The programmes aim to tackle key issues in society such as loneliness and isolation as well as the housing crisis.

In Wales 54% of people aged 60-74 and 49% of people 75+ years, said they felt lonely sometimes (ONS) but they want to stay living at home for longer.

Younger people are being priced out of the villages, towns, and cities they want to live in, for work or study.

Wednesday March 8th 2023

Today is a day we celebrate throughout the world!

“Here’s to strong women: May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.”

Compass Community Hub and Housing Project at Gurnos, formerly the Neighbourhood Learning Centre (NLC), will be opened by Welsh Government Deputy Minister for Social Services Julie Morgan MS on 22 March.

The hub will host an open day where people will be invited to take part in workshops on wellbeing and mindfulness, IT and digital skills, carpentry, retail training and customer service, jewellery making, craft activities and a taster session in beauty.

Compass Hub Open Day will take place on 23 March 2023, from 11am-7pm. As well as the range of taster sessions on offer, staff will also take visitors on a tour and talk to them about the services on offer.

The Welsh Government is asking children and young people, families and community members, and organisations that support and speak out for children in poverty to help us make decisions about what we should do to tackle child poverty.

This engagement work is the start of work to decide what we will include in a draft Child Poverty Strategy for Wales. This will then be shared as a 12-week formal consultation exercise.

This evidence has helped us to start to think about what we need to talk to people about. A strategy explains what we plan to do, why we plan to do it and how we will know if we are achieving what we want to achieve.

We need your help to decide what to include in a formal consultation on a new Child Poverty Strategy for Wales

Voluntary Action Merthyr Tydfil will be holding two short session engagement events to enable community members and Third Sector to feed into the pre-consultation.
